How to organise a freshers event?

1. Decide whether to host an online or in-person event.
2. Recruit the help of one or two Group members - ideally recent graduates or if you are planning a small event from your society. if you are an SU why not engage the societies before the end of term and ask for ideas for activities.
3. You could even co-host with another organisation, society to share resources, increase publicity and create a wider audience
4. Select a date, time and event duration, do you want it to be all day an afternoon or to run over a few evenings
5. Decide the structure of your event and what you want to get out of it. Do you want to get people active and provide and experience?
6. Research events companies or specialist freshers activity providers. Check reviews and see if a freshers event company can deal with the numbers you expect.
7. Promote your event we can help you with this.
8. Asking volunteers to promote your event round college or university is a great way to give responsibility to current students who have experienced some of the issues faced by freshers and create a great atmosphere.
9. Do you require a booking system or will students just be able to come and go as they feel free. We can help with a booking system depending on activities. This is also a great way of  capturing contact information and staying in touch with attendees about future activities, events and sources of support
10. After the event why not send up a follow message. Don't be a stranger as a Student Union or society why not offer a keep warm event after a couple of weeks. Once the initial adrenaline and excitement and adrenaline of the first couple of weeks of college or university has died down is when students might begin to feel a sense of isolation and homesick.
